Leonard Quartetti, 90, of La Grange Park, Illinois, passed away on December 4th, 2019. Len was born in Chicago where he grew up with his younger brothers Ed and Ralph. He graduated from the University of Illinois and served two years as a dentist in the U.S. Navy during peacetime where he enjoyed living and travelling in the Far East. Afterward he practiced dentistry in the community for decades where he found lifelong friends among his colleagues and patients. He loved to be out doing things or travelling, whether skiing, seeing the sights in Europe, or enjoying the beaches and forests of Door County, Wisconsin, where he was a visitor since the 1940s. He enjoyed many hobbies, including a lifelong enthusiasm for photography. He had a passion for cars and driving since he was a kid, from working as a grease monkey in a local garage, amateur racing at Wilmont, and later restoring vintage Porsche 356s.
His curiosity and creativity ran strong and ranged widely to include jewelry making, SCUBA diving, guitar, ceramics, painting, wood carving (including totem poles), stone carving, boatbuilding, furniture building, and modelmaking through his life. He was resourceful and skillful, always preferring to take things apart and fix them himself. Len is survived by his wife Marijane and son Chris.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 2020, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM with a service at 3:00 at The Lodge at Katherine Legge Memorial Park, 5901 S. County Line Road, Hinsdale, IL (directions). Light food and beverages will be available. Please RSVP to Chris Quartetti.
